The engagement required product engineering across web application design, backend systems, device communication, payment flows and IoT reliability. Client Challenge

The client needed to move from device-level operation to a managed platform model. That meant supporting remote machine control, session tracking, device provisioning, payment processing and operational accountability without creating fragile dependencies between the web application and embedded firmware.

For a connected-device business, reliability is a product feature. Every session, command acknowledgement and device event affects user trust and operational support. The platform needed to support current device operations while leaving room for a larger device network and future firmware evolution.

Technical Challenges

The major technical work centered on MQTT architecture, real-time command acknowledgement, device state synchronization, offline recovery, power interruption handling, firmware resilience and secure device-to-cloud communication. The system also needed to account for payment workflows and revenue sharing architecture without coupling financial logic directly to device firmware.

Solution Architecture

Andgate designed a layered architecture with a Next.js PWA frontend, Laravel backend, MySQL persistence, Redis-assisted performance flows, AWS hosting and MQTT infrastructure through EMQX or HiveMQ-compatible patterns. Device communication was planned around TLS-secured channels and structured events so commands, acknowledgements and session records could be tracked independently.

Engineering Approach

The engineering approach prioritized reliability, observability and operational recovery. Instead of treating devices as passive endpoints, the architecture models device identity, command state, session state and health signals as first-class platform concerns.
